Plantings 1995 to 2005

The 10 years, 1995 to 2005, saw a number of plantings in the Misty Vale Arboretum. Species included:

Quercus palustris (Pin Oak)

Ulmus parvifolia (Chinese Weeping Elm)

Quercus lusitanica (Lusitanian Oak or Portuguese Oak)

Cupressocyparis leylandii (Leighton Green)

Quercus coccinea (Scarlet Oak)

Acacia melanoxylon (Blackwood)

Fraxinus pennysylvanica (Red Ash)

Eucalyptus maculata (Spotted Gum)

Fraxinus griffithi (Evergreen Ash)

Eucalyptus saligna (Sydney Blue Gum)

How it looked in 2002 is shown in the images below...........................

Fraxinus pennysylvanica. 12 planted January 1999. Seed source: street tree in Canberra (Torrens). Shown here in 2002 growing strongly despite being established in less than optimal conditions (soils shallower and drier than this species generally prefers).

Fraxinus griffithi in 2002, 7 years after planting (15 planted in 1995). Seed source unknown. Suffered a severe setback during the very dry summer of 1998, now well-established and vigorous. Used here as the last row in the western windbreak (behind C. cunninghamiana and interspersed with Acacia melanoxylon).
